What Is an Acrostic in English
An acrostic is a series of lines in which certain lettersââ¬âusually the first in each lineââ¬âforms a name or a message when readà in sequence. A memory device as well as a type of verbal play, the acrostic has been a popular form of entertainment for over 2,500 years. Acrostic derives from the Greek words end line. Examples of Acrostics The following are examples of Acrostics (follow the bold letters). Acrostic ACROSTIC: are playfulcontrivances of prose or verserendered so that each lineopens or closes with words insequence to read fromtop to bottom, theirinitial or final lettersconstituting a word or phrase. Acrostics as Mnemonic Devices Acrostic mnemonics are sentences in which the first letter of each word is the first letter of one of the things you need to remember...Acrostics are especially useful for long lists of things whose names dont begin with vowels. A famous acrostic for the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto is My very energetic mother just served us nine pizzas, which can be replaced by My very evil mother just served us newts, should you agree with the 2006 reclassification of Pluto as a dwarf planet rather than a full-fledged one. Double Acrostics A double acrostic spells something out with the first and last letters. For example: Unite and untie are the sameââ¬âso say you.Not in wedlock, I ween, has the unity been.In the drama of marriage, each wandering goutTo a new face would flyââ¬âall except you and IEach seeking to alter the spell in their scene. John Keats's Acrostic Give me your patience, sister, while I frameExact in capitals your golden name;Or sue the fair Apollo and he willRouse from his heavy slumber and instillGreat love in me for thee and Poesy.Imagine not that greatest masteryAnd kingdom over all the Realms of verse,Nears more to heaven in aught, than when we nurseAnd surety gives to love and Brotherhood. A Biblical Acrostic A third key rhetorical feature in Lamentations [a book of the Hebrew Bible] is the acrostic that structures four of the five poems (Lam 1-4)...Several purposes have been offered to explain the use of acrostics, including fulfilling magical rites, aiding memorization of poems, emphasizing completeness, or producing aesthetically pleasing literature (Westermann, 98-100; OConnor). Although there may be multiple purposes behind the use of acrostics, most likely they communicate that the poem expresses totality, and in the case of Lamentations both the total devastating effect of the destruction and the total expression of the pain of those who experienced it. Global Trends Free Essays
Global Trends MGT 460: Leadership Priorities Practice Instructor William Conaway February 17, 2011 Global Trends Education is arguably one of the biggest industries in the world. People pay to learn and if we are honest, people learn to get paid. Individuals stress to their children the importance of doing well in school. We will write a custom essay sample on Global Trends or any similar topic only for you Order Now Why? The world has put a prerequisite on success, and it is education. Since we know that education is vital and we understand that the twenty-first century has brought with it a global community; it follows that the Education industry in America, especially public school, must change if this millennial generation is to be successful in the future and as a future public school worker I must be marketable for those changes. General Environment Children are different today then they were 10 years ago. Between the internet, video games, and movies it takes a lot more to hold their attention which means it takes a different type of teacher to get them to learn. Baby boomers who make up the largest population of the experienced teaching community will be retiring over the next 3-5 years. Although these teachers have years of experience this particular generation is very different from anything they have ever faced. Consequently, the students have been turned off by their traditional approach. . Lee Goeke the former head of Human Resources for Vancouver Public ââ¬Å"studied what he calls the millennial generation ââ¬â those who graduated from high school in 2000 or later. He determined they werenââ¬â¢t obsessed with money like Baby Boomers or Generation Xers. Out of all the generations weââ¬â¢ve had, this is the perfect generation for teaching,â⬠Goeke said. ââ¬Å"The millennial generation is more interested in vision and philosophy. (McLatchey, 2008). Task Environment We live in a global community. The internet and other advanced technologies have brought the world together in an unusual way; resulting in Americans not just competing among ourselves, but with people all over the world. This has always been the case in some industries since the establishment of America, but never to the degree in which we see it today. Consequently, public education is becoming an industry of great importance. Parents are demanding more of the curriculum. Society as a whole recognizes the need for quality public school education if we are to continue to compete with companies around the world in the future whose educational systems will or have surpassed ours. Pulling it all Together In the next three years due to the shrinking size of the world and the competition for jobs in our global community education in America will become more world based, focusing on the total growth of the developing child, touching hearts as well as minds and encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic development (http://www. bo. org/pyp/). Having a degree in both organizational management which prepares me for the global business market and psychology which helps me understand social, emotional, and cultural needs will make me not only extremely marketable in the years to come, but an effective member of the education community. Intranet and Extranet Essay Example For Students
Intranet and Extranet Essay Teddy Czech 8/27/10 Module 08 Written Assignment Comparing Networks The intranet network is a collection of private networks within an organization. It uses network technologies as a tool to communicate between people or workgroups. This tool is to help improve data sharing within the business. The intranet network is completely secure and has no portals to the outside world. The intranet network is completely an internal network, which the users maybe an executive team, human resources, accounting and or internal employees. One example for an internet network comes from the web browser; ââ¬Å"Googleâ⬠. Google has an intranet called: ââ¬Å"Momaâ⬠. This is for the Google employees to have access to certain business related information like for payroll, phone numbers, news, and any contact information. The extranet network is a computer network that allows controlled information to be accessible from the outside for business or education. Extranets are not open connections a user must login and have security certificates in order to function correctly. The extranet network is less secure, but new technology makes it more secure with new software and certain firewalls. Users of the extranet network are for companies to share information or data with external users. Some examples are; vendors, suppliers, customers, or business clients. An example of a business using an extranet network is ââ¬Å"AFLACâ⬠. This is to manage, control, and store information which is shared to employees that are external. AFLAC uses an e-business application called ââ¬Å"Livelinkâ⬠. This is for employees to work efficient in collecting or sending important information to their business or clients. The internet network is a worldwide system of computer networks that share information, email, chat, and has web pages. It is made up of thousands of commercial, academic and government networks. Users of the internet are the public at large, employees, businesses all over the world to share information. Any businesses using the internet will be able to communicate, share meaningful and useful accessible information. The businesses will grow and share to customers, businesses, advertise, employees, and the public at large, all over the world. I think as for running a business it is essential to have and make all three of these networks work in their business. It is important keep have employees collect information internally and externally. Not all business needs an external network, but if it came down to I. S department or I. T. department it is very well needed. This is so the company is watched from external networks hacking away into their business. The internet network is more for the upper management to collect information to push business forward.
